چکیده

In this study, we investigated the effect of anticyclonic spanwise rotation on plane Couette flow at small Reynolds number Rew = 1300, defined by moving wall velocity, channel half-width, and kinematic viscosity direct numerical simulations using spectral method. We confirmed that typical number, mean velocity distribution became S-shape, a negative gradient appeared in centre. At significant decrease sweep event, i.e., inrush motion high-speed fluids toward wall, an increase ejection, outward away from were observed vicinity. addition, budget turbulent kinetic energy showed transport into vicinity was suppressed, dissipation rate there attenuated, which indicated relaminarization there. Finally, visualization instantaneous generated secondary swept small-scale vortices near wall.

Transition of planar Couette flow at infinite Reynolds numbers.

An outline of the state space of planar Couette flow at high Reynolds numbers (Re<10^{5}) is investigated via a variety of efficient numerical techniques. It is verified from nonlinear analysis that the lower branch of the hairpin vortex state (HVS) asymptotically approaches the primary (laminar) state with increasing Re. It is also predicted that the lower branch of the HVS at high Re belongs ...

The effect of outer cylinder rotation on Taylor–Couette flow at small aspect ratio

We present the results of a combined experimental and numerical study of Taylor–Couette flow where both inner and outer cylinders rotate. Excellent quantitative agreement has been obtained between finite-element calculations and experimental measurements for a range of aspect ratios and rotation rates. Counter-rotation was found to enhance the breaking of the reflectional symmetry about the mid...

Instability of Plane Couette Flow

The energy gradient theory has been proposed with the aim of better understanding the mechanism of flow transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow. In this theory, it is suggested that the transition to turbulence depends on the relative magnitudes of the energy gradient amplifying the disturbance and the viscous friction damping that disturbance. For a given flow geometry and fluid propert...

Modeling transitional plane Couette flow

The Galerkin method is used to derive a realistic model of plane Couette flow in terms of partial differential equations governing the space-time dependence of the amplitude of a few cross-stream modes. Numerical simulations show that it reproduces the globally sub-critical behavior typical of this flow. In particular, the statistics of turbulent transients at decay from turbulent to laminar fl...

Spanwise Variation in Circulation and Drag of Wings at Moderate Reynolds Number

The measurement and prediction of the aerodynamic performance of airfoils and wings at chord Reynolds numbersbelow105 arebothdifficult and increasingly important in the application to small-scale aircraft. Not only are the aerodynamics strongly affected by the dynamics of the unstable laminar boundary layer, but the flow is decreasingly likely to be two-dimensional as theReynolds number decrease...
